General Borrowing Rules

During the operation of the Library (the provision of services to readers, i.e. Monday to Friday, 8:00 – 20:00) borrowings can be made from the Service Office on the ground floor of the Library.

It is forbidden to remove material from the LIC before recording its borrowing.

Until the recording of the return of the material, the user is responsible for the material borrowed.

The borrower does not have the right to lend material borrowed by him to another. The material must first be returned to the LIC and borrowed by the next one with the following borrowing procedure.

Lending of material to other Libraries outside the University of Ioannina is allowed only if there is a cooperation agreement with this Library.

Material loaned to another Library is subject to the conditions set by the Library and Information Center of the University of Ioannina.

The rights and obligations of the users of the C.K.P. are related to the category of user to which they belong and not to the Sector, Department or School to which they belong. All users of the LIC have the same rights and obligations.

For the purposes of providing its services and especially lending , the LIC keeps a record of the names and addresses of its users. These data are confidential, are used only for the needs of the LIC and are not given to any other private or public body. The data are destroyed when they are not necessary for monitoring the borrowings of the Library.

Upon termination of student status, the award of a Master’s degree, or withdrawal from the University of Ioannina for any reason, users are obliged to return the books they have borrowed. The Secretariat of each Department or the corresponding department may issue a postgraduate degree or degree only after a certificate from the Library that the user does not owe books.

After receiving the certificate, the Secretariat of the respective Department issues the relevant Degree. A similar procedure applies in every case of withdrawal of a member of the Academic Community.

Destruction and loss of material

In case of destruction or loss of the borrowed material, the user must pay the cost of its replacement and any fine that will be imposed.

Delayed hardware return

In case of delay in returning books outside the specified time and despite the Library’s reminders, the Director prohibits the use of the Library or access to electronic resources of the Library to users who:

  • do not return borrowed material,
  • have in their possession material that has not been recorded in the Library’s Borrowing System.

Return reminder

Notifications for the return of borrowed material are sent to the user’s last email address known to the Library, automatically by the Library system.

Loan Renewal

Users have the right to renew the borrowed material depending on their status, until the day of its return, unless there is a reservation from another user. Users who have the right to renew their books can renew their books through the electronic catalogue of the Library and provided that their personal accountin the Library has been activated.

Detention and revocation

The borrowed material must be returned to the LIC upon request by another user after a certain period of time from the date of borrowing (grace period – varies depending on the category of the user).

Any user who needs borrowed material has the right to make a reservation. The reservation is made through the electronic catalogue of the Library and provided that the personal accountin the Library has been activated.

After booking, the date of return is automatically updated to the user who has borrowed the book.

As soon as the Library receives the book, it notifies the user who has made the reservation of its receipt. Reservations are on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Library has the right to revoke material also for reasons of high demand of a book or for reasons of inventory, control, etc.
